Springtime naturally brings an end to many seasons. Not only is the winter season ending and the summer season beginning, but for many this spring marks significant life transitions.
Eager high school and college students are counting down the days until graduation. Spring athletes are in the last stretch of season games. Many internships and practicums are coming to a close. Engaged couples with spring weddings are experiencing their last weeks being single. Spring brings fresh beginnings, and closure to past seasons.
It seems in life, we are continually transitioning from one season to the next. When a season is ending, it is easy to transition so quickly that we forget to embrace, remember, and savor the memories and lessons we learned in the old season.
If you find yourself in a transition between two seasons, I would encourage you to take some time to reflect and consider all that has happened in your life through this season that is closing.
4 Things to Do at the End of Every Season:
1. Be Thankful
Every season comes with its own set of challenges and blessings. But at the end of a season (and during the season) it is good to position your heart for gratitude. Sure you might be excited for what is ahead and ready to leave the past, but pause for a moment and thank God for all the good this last season was filled with. Be thankful for the relationships, the opportunities, the memories, the learning, the growing, the leader, the organization.
2. Reflect and Remember
Think back to who you were at the beginning of this season that is coming to a close. Think back to all the lessons that you have learned. All the things that transformed you and made you who you are today. Make note of the good things you don’t want to forget, the things that marked you forever. Don’t let this season pass without recognizing, noting, and embracing the lessons you learned in this season.
Before rushing into the next new season, make sure you celebrate! Enjoy the victory of a season completed! Throw a party, take a weekend trip, spend special time with family and friends. Your accomplishments and the satisfaction of a season completed should be enjoyed and celebrated!
4. Enter Next Season with Expectancy!
Enter your next season with faith-filled expectancy for what the Lord will do. God promises to lead us “from glory to glory and from faith to faith”. Although sometimes we can not see God’s big picture, we have to joyfully enter each new season with faith and expectancy for the blessing and fullness that God brings to each season. Consider the purpose and significance of this next season and enter with a open and faith-filled heart!
So, congratulations to all of you who are ending a season! Embrace and enjoy the satisfaction of a job well done! And I encourage you find a moment to pause to thank God, reflect & remember, and celebrate all the good of the past season!
Cheers to you! The best is yet to come!
